Working from home might not be an option if it is a high-stress position by nature, but you can still optimize your workspace to make it a more relaxing place to spend your time and do your work, in turn reducing your stress levels and increasing your productivity.

The biggest key to creating a relaxing workspace is styling it in a way that makes you happy.  If it feels right to you, then you’re on the right path.

Essential Remote Work Tools

In order to facilitate remote working, please take note of the technology tools and usage.

In some cases, multiple options are available for the same function. Therefore, it is important within your department and/or workgroup to agree on a common set of tools (e.g., everyone using the same chat application).

Video Conferencing and Meetings

Using Zoom for your video conferences is quick and easy. But you want to make sure your attendees are only the people you invite.

Chat

There are several options for chat and group/ team communications. All these options work well, but it is critical that teams select one platform only. Using multiple platforms can be confusing and difficult to manage.

Make To-Do Lists

Use pen and pad or create online to-do lists for work and keep your tasks organized.

To-do lists are a great way to keep track of outstanding tasks, but they can be poor motivators. They often end up too long, too short, too vague, too confusing, overcommitted, unwieldy, stale and forgotten, or even too meticulously planned.

Exercise & Stretch Regularly

Most of us sit at a desk for eight (or more) hours a day.

Too much sitting can be blamed for health ailments such as weight gain, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic conditions. One (slightly alarming) study even found that people who sit all day have a 40% increased risk of dying.
